A survey by Geotab lists the most dangerous highway in every state, and puts them in order from number one (most dangerous) to number 50 (least dangerous). The most dangerous highway in Georgia is State Route 11, which runs from Georgia’s northern border with North Carolina to our southern border with Florida.
What did the survey say about State Route 11?
According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Highway Administration, State Route 11 saw 124 fatal crashes in the last 10 years, and 141 fatalities. It has a fatal crash rate of 0.8 per one million vehicles. According to the survey, it sees about 12 accidents each year.
Even with this number of fatalities, Georgia is near the middle of the pack, holding spot number 20 out of all 50 states. Florida has the nation’s most dangerous highway, US-1, which saw almost 1,100 fatalities in the last 10 years. Georgia had three times as many fatal crashes as Rhode Island (39), the state with the least dangerous highway in the nation.
Where does Georgia State Route 11 run?
Georgia State Route 11 runs for 376 miles, traveling the entire length of the state from north to south. It is the longest highway in the state of Georgia. Along the route, it goes through part of 20 Georgia counties.
What does this mean for me?
