Settlement Pre-suit. Mitchell v. Southern Regional Medical Center, Clayton County, Georgia. Sixty-eight (68) year old chronically ill husband and father of a seventeen (17) year son died after being placed on oxygen to assist his breathing (severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). A nurse hung an IV with the sedative Diprivan to sedate the patient, but failed to correctly set and/or monitor it. The entire contents of the IV bag were emptied into his bloodstream and he died approximately twenty (20) minutes later from the overdose.
