A third-grade student in McDuffie County was left with critical injuries earlier this week after an accident involving a pickup truck.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the eight-year-old boy was a student of the Thompson Elementary School. The accident occurred just in front of the boy's house at about seven in the morning. He had been waiting at the stop for the bus to come and pick him up. When the bus pulled over, the boy entered the roadway from his driveway in order to board the bus, and was hit by a pickup truck. He sustained critical injuries in the accident, and was airlifted to a hospital.
Both the drivers in the accident have conflicting versions of events. According to the pickup truck driver, the bus had not completely stopped, and the stop sign was not out. The bus driver claims that the bus had stopped completely and the stop sign was out.
Residents who live in the area say that they have expected an accident like this for a while now because speeding in the area is frequent. Investigations into the accident are still going on.
My heart goes out to the family of this little boy who is still in a critical condition, and we should all keep him in our prayers. We all need to be more vigilant now that school is back in session as there many school buses and children on the roads.Jason Schultz is a Georgia bus accident lawyer, helping injured victims of bus accidents in Georgia recover full compensation for their injuries.
