TAC Campaign Reminds Atlanta Drivers to Drive Safely

The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in Victoria, Australia is an organization that “actively campaigns to reduce serious injury and loss of life on Victoria’s roads.” One TAC campaign released a few years ago, a 20th anniversary retrospective montage of its previous campaigns set to the song “Everybody Hurts” by REM, reminds everyone to avoid driving under the influence and to stay safe during the holiday season.

TAC Safe Driving Campaigns

The holidays are quite dangerous for those travelling on the roadway. Roughly 98.6 million people will be travelling 50 miles or more from their homes this season, estimates AAA.

In 2009, the TAC released its 5-minute holiday ad to grab the attention of viewers in Australia, but the message is one that could benefit drivers in Atlanta, too. It reminds viewers of the devastating consequences of driving under the influence and of driving while distracted.

The first half of the video shows people drinking with friends, dancing in a club, etc. The next portion includes various clips of collisions, including rapid scenes of the moment of impact in car crashes and pedestrian accidents.

Lastly, it shows the moments in the immediate aftermath of the accidents, with injuries, paramedics, and the pain, horror, grief, and shock people feel. The last message on the screen reads: “For everyone’s sake, drive safely this Christmas.” Be forewarned: the video is graphic.

Additional TAC Videos

The TAC also has a long list of video campaigns on its site that are very compelling. Its videos fall into the following categories.

  • Vehicle safety
  • Speed
  • Distractions
  • Drink driving
  • Drug driving
  • Motorcycle Safety
  • Drowsy Driving
  • Fatigue
  • Enforcement
  • Young Drivers
  • Seatbelts
  • 20 Year Campaign (the aforementioned video)
  • Talk the Toll Down
  • Child Safety

It also has a new feature, the Be Present campaign, in which you can send a free e-card to your friends and family reminding them to stay safe over the holidays. You can upload up to three photos to insert in the JibJab-esque greeting card, which is set to whimsical rap music with safe driving lyrics.

The TAC greeting card page reads: “Rap this present now! Because the best gift you can give this Christmas, is being there.” You can also use #bepresent to spread the word about the campaign to keep everyone on the roads safe this holiday season.
