What are the car insurance requirements for coverage in Georgia?

Motorists are required to carry a minimum $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident of bodily injury liability. For one person’s injuries, there would be up to $25,000 of coverage. If there were additional occupants injured, up to $50,000 would be available per accident. However, many drivers carry greater coverage, such as $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident.

With property damage liability, motorists must carry a minimum of $25,000 per accident. But again, many choose greater coverage, such as $50,000 per accident.

Although most times the minimum may be enough to pay for damages when an insured driver is at fault for a minor accident, this isn’t always the case, especially in cases of moderate or severe crashes. That’s why a lot of drivers carry supplemental types of insurance that could provide protection when policy limits are exceeded or in the event the at-fault driver fails to carry any auto insurance.
