Describe Your Case:

Whiplash as the Result of a Serious Car Accident in Georgia (Part A)

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries that can result from a car accident in Georgia. This happens when a sudden impact causes damage to the soft tissues in the neck.

Severe whiplash can also include damage to a victim's:

  • intervertebral joints;
  • discs;
  • ligaments;
  • cervical muscles; and
  • nerve roots.

If you have been the victim of whiplash because of a car accident in Georgia, you may be eligible for compensation in a personal injury claim. To claim compensation, you can seek help from a Georgia personal injury lawyer.

Symptoms of Whiplash

If you have been inured in a car accident in Georgia, and you feel that you may have suffered from whiplash, some common symptoms to expect include:

neck pain,
which may occur immediately after the accident or several days later;

  • stiffness in the neck;
  • pain in your muscles or ligaments;
  • headache or dizziness;
  • difficulty swallowing and/or chewing;
  • pain in your shoulders; and
  • pain in your back.

If you suffer from any of these symptoms after a car accident in Georgia, you should seek immediate medical attention. A physician may diagnose whiplash by examining the soft tissues in your neck. They may also assess for further damage by taking x-rays of your cervical spine. If you do receive a diagnosis of whiplash, there are treatments available and most symptoms will completely heal over time.

Treatments for Whiplash

The most common treatment for whiplash is a soft cervical collar. Victims of whiplash will generally wear this collar for 2 to 3 weeks.

Other treatments for whiplash include:

  • heat therapy, which can relieve muscle tension and pain;
  • pain medications and anti-inflammatory medications;
  • muscle relaxants; and
  • various forms of physical therapy.

Symptoms of whiplash usually subside in 2 to 4 weeks.
