Woman Dies When Car Slams into Semi Making U-Turn on Ga. Highway 155

December 29, 2010 - Henry County, Ga. - An early morning accident on Christmas Eve day resulted in the death of a Henry County woman.

A story in the Henry Daily Herald reports that Crystal Clark, 26, of Locust Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 24 when her passenger vehicle collided with a tractor trailer on Ga. Highway 155. The crash occurred just before 6 a.m. close to the Hunter's Chase subdivision.

According to Henry Police Maj. Jason Bolton, the semi truck involved in the wreck was making a U-turn on Ga. Highway 155, when Clark's northbound vehicle crashed into the truck and went underneath. These types of truck crashes are often referred to as "underrides."

The driver of the truck-whom police have not yet named-was not injured in the fatal crash. A story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution indicates that no charges have been filed in connection with the fatal accident but that "it appeared that the tractor-trailer was making an illegal U-turn" at the time of the crash.

Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. An investigation into the fatal accident will continue.

Clark was on her way to work when the highway crash occurred.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics show that there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
