Treatment of Broken Bones after a Serious Accident

While some injuries require a short amount of time for healing, other types of injuries, including fractured bones, may take longer. In many situations, broken bones can be treated with a cast. Depending on the type of break, it may also require the fractured bones to be reset in order to place them into a better position.

Other types of bone fracture treatments may require surgery. One type of surgery is open reduction with internal fixation, in which plates and screws or an intramedullary (IM) rod is used to help stabilize the bone.

Another type of surgical treatment for fractured bones is an external fixator,
in which pins or screws are placed into the bone on both sides of the break. The pins are then secured on the outside with rods and clamps.

The more invasive the treatment is, the longer the recovery time you'll face. This may result in the need for physical therapy and time off from work. If your fractured bones were the result of someone else's negligence, such as a motor vehicle accident or slip and fall caused by another person or company, you may be able to recover your medical expenses and lost wages through a Georgia personal injury claim.

A personal injury attorney in Fayette County can present you with all of your legal options if you have suffered broken bones as a result of a serious accident.
