Senior Couple Killed when Car and Semi-Truck Collide on Highway 441 Bypass

November 16, 2010 - Baldwin, Ga. - An accident involving a tractor trailer and a passenger car in Baldwin has left two people dead.

AccessNorthGa.Com reports that the truck and car crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. Monday on the Highway 441 Bypass at Willingham Avenue. Baldwin Police Chief Darren Osborn stated that the tractor trailer and the passenger vehicle crashed into one-another on the roadway.

Two people were in the passenger vehicle at the time of the fatal accident. Thomas William Bruns, 67, died on the scene. His wife, Lillie M. Bruns, 74, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center immediately following the car accident for the treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Officials first attempted to transport Lillie Bruns to the hospital by Life Flight, but the helicopters could not fly due to adverse weather conditions. Bruns was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. She later died in the hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

Three lanes of traffic on the highway were blocked to traffic for some time as emergency crews cleared the scene and State Patrol began investigations. The fatal car accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics show that there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
