One Critically Injured in Crash with Tractor Trailer in Gwinnett on Hgwy. 316

December 24, 2010 - Gwinnett County, Ga. - A three-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer left one person seriously injured Thursday morning.

WSBTV reports that the accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Highway 316 and Cedars Road. The three vehicles, including the tractor trailer, collided on Highway 316. Further details concerning the nature of the crash or how it occurred are not available at this time.

At least one person incurred injuries in the crash. This person was taken to the hospital immediately following the accident. The injured person is said to be in critical condition.

The name, age and/or gender of the injured person have not been released. The identities of others involved in the crash are also unavailable.

All lanes on Highway 316 were shut down following the accident.

The Gwinnet County Police Department's accident investigation unit was on the scene of the crash. According to Gwinnet County Police Cpl. Jake Smith, the investigation unit only responds to accidents involving "serious injuries and fatalities."

The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics show that there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
