According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, August is the most dangerous month for drivers in the United States.  More motorists die in car accidents in the month of August than during any other month of the year. 

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, out of the twenty-five deadliest days between 2005 and 2009, seven occurred in August.  In 2009, the overall number of people killed in car accidents in the United States dropped by 400 fatalities from the previous year.   There were 2,864 deaths in the month of August, and those numbers remain steady year after year.
