December 24, 2010 - Albany, Ga. - A car accident claimed the life of a Darton College student Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010.
Fox 31 News reports that the accident occurred on the 2000 block of the Liberty Expressway. Marc Dato was riding in a Nissan truck along the expressway when the truck evidently lost control and crashed.
Dato was ejected from the vehicle on impact. He incurred serious injuries and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment. He later died in the hospital.
Two more people were in the vehicle when it crashed. Both were injured in the accident and are now said to be in fair condition. The identities of the injured passengers have not been released.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no further injuries or fatalities.
What caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle remains to be determined.
Marc Dato was laid to rest Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics show that there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
