21-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Ejected From Car in Sandy Springs Crash

December 16, 2010 - Sandy Springs, Ga.- One woman died in a crash early Wednesday morning in Sandy Springs.

WSBTV reports that the accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday on Johnson Ferry Road between Riverside Drive and North Harbor Drive. According to police, Christina Emily Wofford, 21, of Marietta, was driving her Volkswagen Passat when she evidently lost control of the vehicle.

The car then crashed on the side of the road. Lt. Steve Rose of the Sandy Springs Police Department stated that Wofford was ejected from the vehicle on impact. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

No other vehicles were involved in the fatal accident. There were no further injuries or fatalities.

What caused Wofford to lose control of her vehicle remains to be determined. The deadly accident remains under investigation.

Officials from the Sandy Springs Police Department were on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics show that there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
