1 Dead, 2 Injured after Driver Crosses Median, Causes Head-On Crash in Suwanee

November 15, 2010 - Suwanee, Ga.
- An accident in Gwinnett County on Sunday left 1 person dead and sent 2 others to the hospital.

CBS Atlanta
reports that the crash occurred at the intersection of Lawrenceville-Suwanee road and Taylor road in Suwanee. Witnesses on the scene stated that a white pickup truck crossed over the center line and collided head on with a black Toyota Camry in the opposite lane.

The pickup truck was sent flying into the air on impact. It rolled several times before crashing into a utility pole.

"Hit the pole, broke it off, sparks were flying everywhere," said Gary Ellis, who was driving behind the pickup truck at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Toyota Camry died in the crash. According to police the victim was a young man in his late teens or early 20s. The name of the deceased driver will not be released until police have notified his family.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital immediately following the fatal car accident. This person's injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. The truck was also carrying a passenger who incurred only minor injuries in the crash.

Though witnesses on the scene have guessed that speed could have been a factor in the crash, the cause of the crash is yet to be determined. The accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics show that there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
